On the 24th of February, the President of the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, Zigmantas Dargevičius welcomed the Japanese delegation, from the Fukuyama Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The delegation included General Honorary Consul in Japan, the Chairman of the Fukuyama’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Mr. Shigehiro Komaru, President and Manager of Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd, along with his team. Special Advisor Isao Iijima and former Ambassador, Mr. Toyoei Shigeeda with the delegation also visited the Chamber.
Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts General Director Andrius Verbyla, General Secretary Rimas Varkulevičius and Vice-Presidents Vytis Arlauskas and Evaldas Sauliūnas welcomed visitors from Japan at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts.
The Japanese delegation’s regular visits to the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts became a sign of close partnership. The partnership was formed in July 2024 when during the first meetings were discussed the mutual directions and a memorandum of mutual understanding (MoU) was signed. Since then, Japanese delegations, accompanied by Shigehiro Komaru, have been regularly visiting Kaunas. The representatives of the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce and Industry with a business mission have also managed to visit Japan, where they were interested in the economic potential of the regions, the business environment and looked for prospective new partnership opportunities.
The special symbol of membership became the participation of the Japan’s representatives in the centennial event organized by Kaunas Chamber at the end of last year. Notable guests traveled directly from Japan to attend the event, highlighting the close and significant links between the two countries.
The president of Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts Zigmantas Dargevičius said: “The spirit of continuity gives our meetings a special significance – they reflect a consistent dialogue, mutual respect and a mature partnership between two distant yet value-aligned chambers of commerce. This friendly visit once again confirms that our cooperation is based on mutual trust and a shared commitment to strengthening economic, institutional and cultural ties.”
The President also congratulated Shigehiro Komaru on receiving the prestigious award at the Office of the President of Lithuania – the Knight’s Cross of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania.” He also congratulated on the recently awarded gold medal from Vytautas Magnus University.
Wishing continued success, inspiration, and meaningful contributions for the benefit of Lithuania and Japan, President Zigmantas Dargevičius emphasized that he is proud to collaborate both with Shigehiro Komaru and with the Fukuyama Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represented by its chairman.
