On April 9, in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), a meeting of the Lithuania–UAE Bilateral Business Council and a business forum took place, aimed at showcasing economic potential and opening new opportunities for cooperation between business associations.

The event was attended by a delegation from Lithuania, including representatives of chambers of commerce, members of the LT–UAE Business Council, and entrepreneurs interested in the UAE market.

Lithuanian Ambassador to the UAE, Ramūnas Davidonis, in his presentation on the development of bilateral economic relations in recent years and Lithuania’s export potential, noted that trade ties between the two countries have been strengthening year by year. This trend is opening new opportunities for the growth of bilateral trade and deeper business connections between Lithuania and the UAE.

During the event, Ambassador Davidonis and Acting President of the Association of Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, Sigitas Gailiūnas, met with the Vice Chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, H.E. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais. The meeting focused on the future activities of the Lithuania–UAE Business Council, the strengthening of business ties between the two countries, and an invitation was extended to the leadership of the Sharjah Chamber and a business delegation to visit Lithuania.

Chairman of the Lithuania–UAE Business Council, Vidas Butkus, emphasized in his speech that the Lithuanian delegation greatly values the opportunity to meet and is ready to collaborate. He underlined the importance of such meetings in laying a solid foundation for constructive dialogue and setting common cooperation priorities, which can significantly contribute to the development of even closer and long-term bilateral relations.

Expressing the Lithuanian Business Council’s readiness for cooperation, Vidas Butkus outlined the main goals of the council:

The aim is to establish direct cooperation ties with various UAE stakeholders – local organizations, clusters, business incubators, government institutions, and ministries. The council also plans to actively exchange trade and investment information and to promote trade missions. Both countries seek to encourage cooperation between companies and business organizations across various sectors, support new business initiatives, and facilitate trade and export through joint seminars, forums, business networking events, and other meetings. Particular focus will be placed on bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, services, and industry, fostering stronger, friendly relations between the Republic of Lithuania and the UAE. Additionally, there will be efforts to better understand each country’s business environment and exchange knowledge and best practices beneficial for cooperation.

During the bilateral business forum, the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts and the Šiauliai Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts signed cooperation agreements with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. These agreements are expected to open new opportunities for closer economic cooperation and stronger business relations between the two countries.

Around 100 representatives of businesses and associations from Lithuania and the UAE participated in the forum.

The Lithuania–UAE Business Council was established on May 4, 2023, through a partnership between the Association of Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts and the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The Council aims to ensure direct connections between business associations, jointly explore business development opportunities, and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

To deepen their understanding of the UAE market, the Lithuanian delegation also met with local businesses, attended meetings with consultants who support market entry into the UAE, participated in the CEO Club Network meeting where they had the opportunity to present their products and services, explored business establishment opportunities in the UAE, and visited companies located in the Sharjah Airport Free Zone.
