H.E. Timur Urazayev, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Lithuania, and First Secretary Nurkhan Kussanov, visited Kaunas District Municipality, where they met with Mayor Valerijus Makūnas, business leaders, President of Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts Zigmantas Dargevičius, and Vice President Vydas Damalakas.
Due to the war in Ukraine, Kazakhstan is redirecting its trade routes through the Trans – Caspian corridor. This has impacted trade between Lithuania and Kazakhstan, prompting both countries to sign a memorandum in May to enhance mutual cooperation.
Ambassador Timur Urazayev and Mayor Valerijus Makūnas encouraged further exploration of trade and business opportunities, emphasizing Kazakhstan`s potential as an open and progressive market. Local Businesses, such as chocolate manufacturer JSC ,,Meškėnas“ and wholesale company ,,Širmulis“, have already shown interest in Kazakhstan`s markets.
Kazakhstan`s vast natural resources and booming construction sector, especially in its capital Astana, present significant investment opportunities. Ambassador Timur Urazayev highlighted the importance of investment in the processing industry and the growing demand for electric vehicle charging stations. The Ambassador also praised Lithuanian professor Rimantas Benetis for his contributions to Kazakhstan`s healthcare system.
This visit marks another step towards strengthening the economic and cultural ties between Lithuania and Kazakhstan.
